Stable Cycling of Sodium Metal Anodes Enabled by a Sodium/Silica‐Gel Host

چکیده

Sodium metal batteries (SMBs) are innovative and promising energy storage systems. SMBs a competitive technological paradigm compared to the state-of-the-art lithium-ion thanks high specific capacity of sodium metal, i. e., 1166 mAh g−1, Na+/Na0 low redox potential −2.71 V vs. standard hydrogen electrode. Unstable solid electrolyte interface (SEI), uncontrolled overpotentials dendrite growth main drawbacks that hinder development SMBs. Herein, we propose functionalized silica gel material with extended porosity (NaSGII) as an active host in order obtain stable cycling anodes. NaSGII was incorporated composite electrodes using conductive carbon additive polymeric binders functional properties cells demonstrated by galvanostatic tests. A Butler-Volmer analysis improvement electrokinetic parameters induced NaSGII.

Layered reduced graphene oxide with nanoscale interlayer gaps as a stable host for lithium metal anodes.

Metallic lithium is a promising anode candidate for future high-energy-density lithium batteries. It is a light-weight material, and has the highest theoretical capacity (3,860 mAh g(-1)) and the lowest electrochemical potential of all candidates. There are, however, at least three major hurdles before lithium metal anodes can become a viable technology: uneven and dendritic lithium deposition,...

Interconnected hollow carbon nanospheres for stable lithium metal anodes.

For future applications in portable electronics, electric vehicles and grid storage, batteries with higher energy storage density than existing lithium ion batteries need to be developed. Recent efforts in this direction have focused on high-capacity electrode materials such as lithium metal, silicon and tin as anodes, and sulphur and oxygen as cathodes. Lithium metal would be the optimal choic...

High rate and stable cycling of lithium metal anode

Lithium metal is an ideal battery anode. However, dendrite growth and limited Coulombic efficiency during cycling have prevented its practical application in rechargeable batteries. Herein, we report that the use of highly concentrated electrolytes composed of ether solvents and the lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide salt enables the high-rate cycling of a lithium metal anode at high Coulombic ef...

Stable Cycling of SiO2 Nanotubes as High-Performance Anodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Herein, SiO2 nanotubes have been fabricated via a facile two step hard-template growth method and evaluated as an anode for Li-ion batteries. SiO2 nanotubes exhibit a highly stable reversible capacity of 1266 mAhg(-1) after 100 cycles with negligible capacity fading. SiO2 NT anodes experience a capacity increase throughout the first 80 cycles through Si phase growth via SiO2 reduction. The holl...

Stable cycling of double-walled silicon nanotube battery anodes through solid-electrolyte interphase control.

Although the performance of lithium ion-batteries continues to improve, their energy density and cycle life remain insufficient for applications in consumer electronics, transport and large-scale renewable energy storage. Silicon has a large charge storage capacity and this makes it an attractive anode material, but pulverization during cycling and an unstable solid-electrolyte interphase has l...
